The Wilderness Downtown
Posted: 20 October 2010 Filed under: Ramblings | Tags: advertising, css, html5, music Leave a commentThis site asks you to enter the full address of where you grew up and then plays a video which incorporates images of the street. From a technology view point it’s an incredible feat of engineering but from an emotional point of view it’s really quite clever and subtle. As a boy I can remember running home coz I was late for my tea and that immediately jumped into my mind with the imagery. Does that now mean every time I hear the track I will be transported back to my childhood? That’s quite clever, subtle and manipulative if that was the intention……I still love it though 🙂

Craftivism workshop
Posted: 1 December 2009 Filed under: Ramblings | Tags: hack, open source, workshop Leave a commentAs part of the Craftivism project at the Arnolfini, I’m taking part in a workshop with GOTO10 called /mode + v noise. Using Python and Supercollider, we’re gonna be making our own software sound synthesiser and chat bots that will be used to manipulate and turn chat on an IRC channel into a music score.

lose/lose
Posted: 22 September 2009 Filed under: Ramblings | Tags: game Leave a commentReally cool and scarey game. lose/lose is based on the old school top-down shoot-em up but the aliens in the game are based on a random file on your computer. You kill an alien and the file is deleted but if you’re killed then the game is deleted. Really wanna play it but feeling a bit scared – might have to borrow someone else’s computer 🙂
Ecoids
Posted: 25 June 2009 Filed under: Ramblings | Tags: ec-os, ecoid, processing, xbee Leave a commentI’ve just been on a workshop to build ecoids using XBee. An ecoid collects eco-data such as humidity, light and temperature and using an XBee transmits the values to a server which then in turns loads them into a database for publishing at a later date. Photos of the workshop can be found here.

Greenwood 2.0
Posted: 7 March 2009 Filed under: Ramblings | Tags: greenscreen, greenwood, poetry Leave a commentLast night saw the launch of a project I’ve been working on called Greenwood 2.0 which is a virtual version of Mark Greenwood. Using the processes he uses to write his poems, I translated them into code to produce a generative piece that’s displayed on the GreenScreen. More details can be found on the project site here. And see what the BBC and The Herald had to say about it.
