Week 10

This visualisation is unashamedly lifted from matt pearson’s 100 abandoned artworks and whilst he dedicated it to his wife, to me it looks like a poppy and so I dedicate it to the soldiers world wide fighting some politician’s war and hope they all make it home safely. I again make use of the Arch-OS feed (http://www.arch-os.com/livedata/).

Week 9

I really wanted to do something a bit scientific so thought a feed on the Large Hadron Collider could be fun. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any interesting ones around (unless you know otherwise) so I used this one – http://rss.sciam.com/sciam/topic/large-hadron-collider. The visualisation is trying to look like atoms being agitated but now I’m not so sure lol.

Week 8

This week my creative juices are running a bit low so I’ve gone for a simple word cloud and not even formatted at that. So, I’ve taken the Independent’s news feed (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/rss) and used that as the basis for my cloud. Well, when I say cloud i guess i mean “mass of words”. Anyways, feel free to pull it apart :)

Week 7

This visualisation is very similar to the previous weeks. ECO-OS is a project from i-DAT which is collecting ecological data and publishing it via an RSS feed (http://www.eco-os.org/livedata/). The visualisation is affected by the total number of light sensors being logged.

Week 5

So I’m returning back to the weather for this week’s project and using the speed of the wind as reported via the Arch-OS feed (http://www.arch-os.com/livedata/). The value of the windspeed sensor controls the speed with which the rectangle revolves, much like a virtual wind vane.

Week 4

So this week’s makes use of the Radio 1 Mini Mix podcast (http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/radio1/r1mix/rss.xml). It takes the first track and uses the beat to draw circles or squares. The colours and level of transparency are also determined by the beat. It takes a while to load so please be patient – you might also want to turn the volume down as it also plays the track :)

Week 3

This week’s visualisation uses the poetry of Polly Lovell (http://pollylovellpoems.wordpress.com/feed/). A word is randomly selected from the first poem and in turn is interpreted using 10 photos from flickr. When viewed, try moving the mouse over the images.

Week 2

This week’s visualisation uses NASA’s image of the day (www.nasa.gov/rss/image_of_the_day.rss). It has 12 instances of the image all rotating on the same point to give the impression of a star.

Week 1

After much consideration I decided to make the first visualisation of our national obsession – the weather. Using the BBC weather feed for Plymouth (http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/0013/Next3DaysRSS.xml), I’m taking the most up-to-date values to feed the sketch. Unfortunately during my testing I noticed the feed isn’t updated as often as I would have liked so it could be displaying the sun when it’s actually tipping down!
