Pots

I got one of those battery connector thingys for a 9v battery and as you can see below it has 2 long leads that I have been able to use as probes. I touched the pots that I found last week and I’ve been able to turn the lights on but no sound which I had a bad feeling about last week. I’ve had a quick poke around with my new probe but didn’t have much success. I’ll have more time tomorrow so I’ll give it another go then.

Just like buses, you wait ages for an entry and 2 come along together. I’ve just spent the afternoon going thru’ the the links on my desktop and added them to del.icio.us and i’ve even added them to the menu using the feedlist plugin. I really spoil you!

Update on stuff

I don’t know how peopel people manage to update their blogs everyday. I never seem to remember and then end up doing a big one……a bit like now come to think of it.

So, what’s been happening in the Boxel world this week. I’ve had a couple of really productive meetings, made a big dent in a couple of projects I’m working on and even managed to fit in 2 trips to the gym. I’ve got back into smoothies as well. I used to drink them quite a bit but all the preparation put me off them, peeling, slicing and then blending started to be a bit much. I’ve come across this recipe on regularjen.com which doesn’t look too bad for someone as lazy as me.

I finally got around to downloading a copy of Flock for a bit of a play. In fact I’m using it now to post this entry. Actually, if truth be told that’s why I’ve finally got around to posting. I even got around to getting an account with Flickr and del.icio.us. I haven’t added anything to them yet but I will so don’t go giving me that look. I’ve also downloaded Flock’s source to have a look thru, maybe it’ll inspire me to do something interesting with it.

And finally, Jamie and I eventually got round to sorting out our entry for this year’s Milia. More on that if we get accepted.

Oopsie update

I’ve got soem some good news today. I manged to get the 4th bulb out and repaired both the cut and the broken wires without either burning my fingers or getting solder everywhere. I even managed to track down a multimeter I had from a previous life so I was able to test all of the pots. I think I’ve found the ones I need but I’m not totally convinced that I can get both the bulb and the buzzer to activate when I run a current thru’ it. I’m gonna try and rig something up with a battery and a couple of wires and try it that way before soldering them up to my board.

Oh yeah, and Argyle lost.

Oopsie

As you’ll see below, I’ve managed to get to the circuit board out but at a bit of a price. I cut a wire with the plan to crimp a male bullet connector on it and a female on the other end to re-join them. But the wire is too thin to stay in the connector even when I’ve suqeezed squeezed it together as much as I can so I think I’m gonna have to solder them. I haven’t soldered for a good few years but I’m hoping that as a skill it’s a bit like riding a bike but without the grazed knees.

As a plan B, I thought I’d try and get the bulbs out of their holders which then ought to allow me to lift the circuit board out anough enough to get at the underneath. I managed to get 3 out including the one with the cut wire but then one of the wires snapped on the 4th. I think it’s snapped off right near the bulb so I’m still gonna have to get it out some how. Hmm, if I repair the cut wire I’ll have 3 to experiement with which isn’t quite so bad. So I get my soldering iron out only to discover that it needs 14 hours to fully recharge!!! Fan-bloody-tastic. Looks like it’ll have to wait ’til tomorrow now. I hoipe hope Argyle win.

Tickets

So, I’ve just tried to get some tickets to see the Artic Monkeys and at the Pavillions. They went on sale at 6 this evening and I’ve had the page up and loaded since yesterday. The second the clock on my PC showed 6, I clicked the link, entered the number of tickets I wanted and then waited……to be told that they had sold out already!!! How the bloody hell did that happen so quickly??? I know the clock is spot on so it’s not as if I was late. Did everyone have the page loaded and I just clicked too slowly??
